Launching for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, November 2026
Today, as Lung Cancer Awareness Month begins, we’re proud to release the ALK Positive Australia Strategic Plan 2027-2030.
This plan started with a simple question. What matters most to you?
In June, we invited every member to complete a Strategic Planning Survey. The response rate was 40.7%, and 89% of respondents are living with ALK+ cancer themselves. Their answers shaped every page of this plan. Nearly 89% wanted more funding and support for ALK+ research and innovation. Over 80% wanted stronger policy and advocacy for affordable treatment access. And 63% wanted better awareness of ALK+ cancer among health professionals and the public.
We listened. The plan is built around four pillars.
Research and Innovation. Funding and leading research that improves survival and quality of life for Australians with ALK+ lung cancer, with patients as genuine partners.
Advocacy and Policy. Working for equitable access to testing, treatments and care.
Awareness. Making sure people diagnosed with ALK+ cancer, and the health professionals who care for them, know we’re here.
Community Connection and Support. Because no one should face ALK+ cancer alone.
Underpinning all four is a commitment to grow our own capacity, drawing on more of our Executive and members so the work is shared by many.
Our vision hasn’t changed. We want a future where ALK+ cancer is a manageable and ultimately curable disease, and where every Australian has equitable access to testing, treatment and support.
The plan was developed by our Strategic Plan Subcommittee, led by Deputy Chairperson Lisa Briggs, and endorsed by our Executive Committee on 8 October 2026. Thank you to Lisa, the subcommittee, and every member who took the time to share their views.
